Yuanhua
Zhang and Yuanhong Zhang surrendered assets valued at $719,600 allegedly being funds
laundered after drug deals by convicted pseudoephedrine supplier Ziyang Ma.
Ma was jailed for nine
years and four months after pleading guilty to 43 charges of supply. A police raid at Askerne Drive at Flat Bush
in south Auckland uncovered $39,600 in cash.
Ma and Yuanhua Zhang were living at the address. Police located 11.8 kilograms of ContactNT
containing pseudoephedrine valued at $459,100 from another raid at Kimpton
Road, Papatoetoe. Yuanhong Zhang lived
at this address. She was registered
owner of both properties. No charges were
laid against Yuanhua Zhang. Charges
against Yuanhuong Zhang were later withdrawn.
Police investigations identified funds used to purchase the two
properties were from unexplained or unverified sources.
The High Court approved
a settlement negotiated under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act. Ms Zhang, as registered owner of Kimpton Road
was given 15 days to clear an ANZ mortgage over the property and then surrender
ownership of the un-mortgaged property.
If done, she could then retain ownership of Askerne Drive.
